Teaching EFT to elementary kids prior to the AIMS tests

This year, prior to the AIMS tests, I taught the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders how to tap for calmness.  I also made a short CD with the instructions on it and gave one to each teacher.  Each morning the teachers played the CD and had the children follow the instructions.  I knew that it was working when the school nurse said to me after the 1st day, "I don't know if it is that tapping that you've been doing, but no kids came in to me today with stomach aches."  Also, many kids told me that they felt calm.

    Hi, Monica,

Isn't it wonderful how effective EFT is for calming both students and teachers! I know our students and teachers get really anxious and stressed out when it's time for our TAKS tests. It's sad, really, that so much pressure is put on children these days, but at least when they know how to do EFT they can get some relief.

You are a blessing to the children (and teachers!).

That sounds great! I would love to know what set-up and what phrases you used. I did a bit last week prior to Year 12 VCE (final year) exams, just with stressed-out individuals, but I like the idea of focusing on calm - could you share some ideas in more detail?

Re: Teaching EFT to elementary kids prior to the AIMS tests

Well, there were a combination of things that had occurred throughout the year;  one 5th grade teacher was very receptive to EFT throughout the whole year.  Obviously, these kids were at an advantage.  Also, I had a weight loss group for staff throughout part of the year.  These teachers had also been sporadically teaching the kids EFT.  Prior to the tests, I used a combination of Brain Gym, Barbara Eden techniques and EFT.  So we began with EFT.  The kids gave me lots of feedback about what was the scariest part for each of them; negative self-talk, seeing the paper, the night before, etc.  So I started with, "Even though I'm so scared of these dumb tests." for 1 round. They really liked saying 'dumb tests'. During the 2nd round they could fill in the blank with their own personal fear.  Next I taught some of Barbara Edens energy and stimulus points that they could use whenever they felt like they were losing it.  Then we used some Brain Gym exercises which cross the midline of our bodies.  Research has shown that when we cross the midline we stimulate both sides of our brains.  I had previously made a CD that was exactly the same as I taught to the kids.  One of the teachers, who was in my weight loss class, told me that she had a student who rarely got past the 1st question on any quizzes, so she taught the students about 'borrowing effects'.  She also taught them about being a community and helping others.  So they all tapped and focused on that certain child.  He not only finished the tests, but he did not even finish last.

It's great that you are using it with so many kids. I guess I was wondering what you use for the reminder phrases. For example, with the tests, throughout the sequence (after the set-up)did you use "I'm scared of this test", or "fear of this test" or just stick with "this dumb test". I always seem to be more uncertain of what will work for reminder phrases than for the set-up. I'd appreciate your ideas. Also, I've use the 9 gamut procedure with some students, which I gather has the same aim as the Brain Gym stuff interms of crossing the midline - do you use that at all? Thanks.

    Hi Monica,

I'm new to EFT and wonder how I'd be able to get a copy of your CD.  Can I order it online?  I'm from Sydney, Australia.

    Cheers!
