    Improving Reading with EFT

     Hi,

like any other academic performance reading can be improved by EFT.

This is especially important for children who are labled dyslectic. In my experience

EFT helps balance negative emotions that developed around this topic and triggers

brain states that promote learning and brain development in general.

Some suggestions on the use of EFT with reading:

    1.  Get the senso-motor base covered

Any kind of kognitive skill is based upon perception and movement. Childen with problems in this area might need to see a

developmental specialist. Sometimes they need special glasses or a special training (e.g. speech therapy). Yet eft can

help with the emotional side of that too. Hopefully specialists in this field will pick it up.

    2.  Get good instruction

Even withEFT you need good learning strategies. Like a golfer has to get his / her swing down. There is a technical side to learning, A good

teacher / trainer can be of great help. If they have some eft under their belt - even better.

    3.  Get beyond negative emotions around reading

    Examples I've used with success:

Even though I hate reading, I'm a good learner / cool kid / teenager/ choose to give my best.

Even though reading was inventend to torture me, I'm a good learner / cool kid / teenager/ choose to give my best.

Even though  reading is boring and makes no sense  I'm a good learner / cool kid / teenager/ choose to give my best.

Letting those emotions be is very important. EFT creates a safe place for those emotions to be adressed and released.

Please note: The insensity of those emotions and the writings on the walls of those near to the child might make

it necessary to see a skilled practitioner.

    4.  Targeting negative experiences

Some children just made negative experiences with reading. School mates laughed at them or made funny noises, when they were trying to read aloud or a teacher threw their book shut stating: "You can't read".

    Examples I've used with success:

Even though they made funny noises, when I was trying to read I'm a good learner / cool kid / teenager/ choose to give my best.

Even though my teacher said: I can't read I'm a good learner / cool kid / teenager/ choose to give my best.

     5. Getting to specific issues

Specific issues  are best covered when switching back and forth between actually reading and tapping. Experts call that in vivo or live

coaching which can be a very powerful learning experience.

Issues that came up with my clients were:

Even though the words get blurred when I'm trying to read I'm a good learner / cool kid / teenager/ choose to give my best.

Even though I get a headache when I'm reading more than two pages...

Even though I'm reading too fast  to get done with it...

Even though I'm reading difficult words too fast...

Even though I'm not getting difficult words...

Even though there are still some difficult words...

Even though I'm afraid to read aloud...

    6. Seeing learning a road to travel...

Learning and development are like a road to travel. Techniques like EFT or learning strategies don't teleport us to the end of

the road. Rather we are making bigger strides as we release some of the ballchaines attached to our feet. Yet the road

    goes on for ever...

     I hope thats helpful

    Re: Improving Reading with EFT

     Dirk,

This is a wonderful contribution to this forum - thank you. I'd add that reading isn't the only subject that your multipoint approach would address.

"Even though I'm afraid of being asked to solve a math question in class.....what if I.... "

"Even though I feel stupid when I forget history names and dates.......I believe I'm smarter than that..."

"Even though I don't do as well as some of the kids in class and they laugh at me......I'm still a good kid..."

The point of these forums is to bring forward our ideas and exeriences in using EFT to help young people overcome their fears and problems. Hopefully teachers in particular will use your approach and report on how they manage with specific issues so that successes, as well as obstacles can be voiced and incorporated in the body of knowledge we share.

This is a great start - do others have more to add in this discussion group or in the Teachers' Forum? If we begin other threads on school topics like: "improving math" "overcoming test fears"  "getting comfortable with public speaking" etc. a true reference source will build for others to quickly find and learn from.
