    Infantile Eczema

    Hi All,

My 5-year old has been suffering from Infantile Eczema from the age of 1.  I have been treating him with primarily Homeopathy with occasional steroidal ointment when it gets really bad.  His skin develops rashes only during winters and this year, Thank God, has been good.  The rash is very mild and is responding to moisturisers and homeopathic medicines.  I have had good success with my 11-year old with EFT on various issues but with my younger son, I face a lot of resistance.  He refuses to let me tap him and when I surrogate tap him, I can intuitively sense some objection.  If our diseases are all energy disruptions possibly related to emotional stresses, why do children develop these diseases?  How do I find a permanent cure for my son, who seems to be objecting to EFT?  Is it ok to surrogate tap him even though I feel I dont have his acceptance?  Any guidance is appreciated.

    Hugs

    Priya

    Re: Infantile Eczema

    Hi Priya,

Thank you Priya, for your questions and comments. Your post has sparked in mean a whole host of inspiarions that I would like to share with you. I will address a few of them here.

First of all I am pleased to see that you have had good success with your 11 year old. It is wonderful when we can successfully pass on the benefits of such an empowering tool to our children. Every child like every adult is different in terms of what stimulates and interests them and I would like to address that in this post in reference to your children and their differing attitude towards tapping.

I would like to underline your comments about your younger son's objection and acceptance. You are totally right not to push in a direction using EFT where it is meet with resistance. You agree that 'administering EFT' with the child even if it is surrogately could have a detrimental effect if it is under a cloud of resistance.

That is not to say that EFT does not work and nor am I saying that EFT can not work on some. We just need to find a 'a different door' (thanks to Gary C) and be inventive, especailly when it comes to children

May I make a sugestion and ask you to consider what your son likes doing? Is he an active boy? Does he like rhymes? Does he like stories? Does he like helping? If you can establish in your mind an activity that he likes doing then you may be on track to find a more comfortable way of introducing EFT.

The next stage would be to EVER SO CASUALLY (hard when you just know that tapping works) introduce EFT by using on yourself for an issue of your own. Make sure he is in ear shot, but don't actively invite him to join. Even though he his quite young he will be more than capable of picking up signals about how it can help mummy. Use it for a few short minutes and comment how you feel. BE honest, even if that means that you say something like , "that helped me but is has made me think of another bit I'd like to tap on".Then leave it like that and return to another activity.

I suggest that you don't engage and talk to him about tapping directly for a while. Just let him absorb the benefits by seeing what happens to you. I realise that the temptation is to jump in and get him tapping as soon as the first flicker of interest appears. Turn the whole process on it's head and use some reverse psychology so he actually gets to a point where he is trying to copy you and ask questions himself. After many, many years of working with adults and children I have very firmly come to the conclusion that there is nothing more desirable than something that is just a little out of our reach!

I also strongly recommend that all parents tap themselves first. Perhaps I will do another post about that. Or you could email me for details.

I would like to ask you what set up's are you using with your younger son and what is it that you are trying to achieve? Perhaps I can help with the set up's and the aspects. There is much that can be tweaked here. Practice and experience are key.

With reference to helping attract the attention of children in the first place, I run workshops, sessions and talks nationwide about this very important area. Children are so inventive and I have developed many strategies and resources to help engage their imagination and attract the attention of a child any age - baby to late teens using different vocab, visual stimulus, PAT the teddy (who has his own energy problems), a fab tapping song for a person of any age - learning about why we should tap whilst learning the points at the same time, posters ,handbooks and more. Adapting the adult ways in which EFT is introduced to our next generation and allowing them to be our guide opens up a very exciting new level of healing. To build on Gary's wonderful metaphor of  being on 'the first floor of the healing high rise' I find every day that children, their honesty and absence of complex filtering (that we develop the older that we get) are the true teachers of energy in it's purest human form.

Get in contact with me if you would like to find out more about talks, resources or if you have any questions or comments please.

    Re: Infantile Eczema

    Hi Christine,

My Apologies for the late response.  Thank you for your message and I wanted to share with you what happened today.

My son was not in a good mood when he woke up and I struggled to get him ready for school.  I was annoyed with him and he was upset with me, but both of us put our feelings aside and hurried as it was getting late.  After he got ready, we hugged and kissed each other.  And then he did the most wonderful thing.  He help my hand and tapped my KC point.  I was astounded.  This is from a little boy who I thought resisted tapping.  I dont know what goes on in the little mind of his, but he did recognize that tapping calms us.  How did he get that message...I have tried to use tapping with both my kids for only physical ailments and here is this little boy who has intuitively understood what it really is for  - emotions.  It so syncs with what you have written.

I am so grateful for EFT and am so glad of what I am passing on to my children and learning from them.

    Hugs,

    Priya

    Re: Infantile Eczema

Priya - I don't know if you'll respond to this post (since It's been months since then) - but wanted to respond. My 6 yr old daughter has had progressive eczema since age 2. It started behind her left ear. We eventually tried some homeopathy and with graphites it actually cleared for a short time, but returned. Slowly it worsened. Finally a couple of years ago I went to a dermatologist for my own dermatitis (which interestingly had developed around the same time as her rash), and he gave me some steriodal cream. I don't like using this stuff, but tried it in desperation on myself. It cleared quickly from one area only to reappear in other spots. Confirms my belief that it's systemic.

So as my daughter's rash grew worse - flaking and cracking - I decided to just try it (Big mistake). Within about 24 hours it cleared up the affected ear -- and showed up on the other ear! There it stayed, and has continued to grow worse. Having done more reading, the holisitc view tends to identify eczema as having emotional causes - usually to do with emotional expression. My daughter is quite unusual, highly sensitive, , intense, highly emotional, and not grounded - lives a lot in her mind/imagination.

I had tried EFT (I'm a psychotherapist, now using EFT for about 80% of my clients and loving it) for my daughter a few times over the past year or so. But with no results and no persistance. Now I've renewed my commitment and am doing EFT with her every evening. She knows the process. i've used it on myself often around her and on her for various other emotional upsets, fears, and bad dreams. And she asks for it at times.

For this - I've suggested to her that her rash might be about some held in feelings. So we've started to tap not just about the rash, but about any feeling - especially anger that she felt that day. It feels right. We'll just have to see where it goes.

She's also getting NAET (allergy elimination treatment) - so far with no affect on her rash.

Please let me know how your son is doing and if you've had any improvements.

    All the best,

    Ben

    Re: Infantile Eczema

     Hi Ben,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

I am not sure if I have had success with my son's eczema.  It did flare up last year, but the severity was much lower.  To my surprise, one patch of skin on his arm remained flaky and dry throughout summer (when his skin is expected to be absolutely clear).  I didnt try EFT or anything else as it didnt seem to bother him.  It is getting cooler now and as part of his school uniform (dress code), he is expected to wear a woollen sweater.  I have never had him wear wool as the doctors had advised against it. And truly enough, the one day he wore it, that dry patch of skin turned red and itchy.  I am yet to talk to his school about his skin to avoid the sweater.  I did surrogate EFT on him today for wool.  I will post here again soon for whatever results I get.

My son is a happy child and I find it difficult to believe it is due to some unresolved emotions...I am more inclined to believe it is genetic memory.  Lot of allergies in our family.

    Hugs

    Priya
