Help with my stuttering 4 years old grand daughter

    Dear Practitioners,

my granddaughter, 4years and 2 months old, has started stuttering about a year ago and it is getting worse. Actually I think she never got to speaking fluently (like her older sister, nearly seven years old). She is a lovely and very loveable kid. Especially empathic for her age, shows much love and is a pleasure to be with. She is aware of her stuttering - recently said to me: "you know grandma - I stutter". I have tried surrogate EFT to no avail. She is going to have a new brother born in September. She asked me twice who I loved more - her or her sister. As to her coming brother she expressed pleasure at not being the smallest in the family any more. I worry about the kids in the kinder garden laughing at her and woud like very much to help her. Please feel free to suggest anything, including for me to tap on my worry! I love her so much! Thanks for advance for any suggestion.

By the way, I am an EFT practitioner myself, a social worker, having great results with EFT, yet never so far succeeded with surrogate tapping.

    Hello Irit,

Have you tapped on her or with her?  Has she expressed her own distress about the stuttering?  Many children go through a stuttering phase at this age and is sometimes related to a trauma.  This trauma may be minor to us but to a child it can have a big impact.  If it persists more than six months or so, I would recommend an evaluation by a speech therapist.  With a new baby coming, the stuttering may worsen.

If in person is not possible, continue with the surrogate tapping.  Try using phrases such as, "Even though I don't know why I am stuttering, I will give it up when I am ready."  You might just tap "Even though I have a big sister and soon a little brother, there is plenty of love in my family to share and plenty of love for me."

If she is not so bothered about her stuttering, relax a little and see how it plays out.  What a lucky little girl to have a Grandma like you!

    Happy Tapping!

Re: Help with my stuttering 4 years old grand daughter

    Dear Irit,

I had a mother do surrogate tapping for her 5 year old son, using "Even though ___ stammers, I deeply and completely love, forgive and accept him".  She tapped 1 round 3 times a day, for about 15 days and reports a significant improvement.  I have now asked her to modify the setup to "Even though _____ still stammers sometimes, I deeply and completely love, forgive and accept him" and I hope that helps further.

I prefer using ".. love, forgive and accept" when using a default setup, as it usually gives quick results.

Have you considered tapping on "Even though I have never succeeded with surrogate EFT, I love, forgive and accept myself" or "Even though I have never succeeded with surrogate EFT before, it can start working now", or any other affirmations along such lines?

I write this as you said that you get great results with EFT but have never succeeded with surrogate tapping.

Sometimes when I introduce EFT to a person, I find no change in the first round. At such times, I tap using "Even though I don't think EFT can solve my problem,  I am still willing to try" and then do the next round on the original problem.  Immediately, there is a significant shift.

So I thought that perhaps something parallel may help you with surrogate tapping.

    Best Wishes and Warm Regards,

    Dear Irit,

Since you may have a block with doing suggogate EFT it might be that you simply need something to work with. I am an EFT practitioner and have found the Tappy Bear to be of great help with children. Just search Tappy Bear. Tappy is the brain child of an 11 year old girl who used one of her stuffed bears to help another child.  You use Tappy as a surrogate but it give you something outside yourself to work with. The amazing thing about Tappy is that he always has the exact problem that the child or adult has. You could tell your granddaughter  that Tappy also stutters and ask if she want to help. Since Tappy has all the tapping spots designated by little buttons it is easy for the little ones.  So you could have her go through the procedure with you like a game as she tapped on the bears buttons with "Even though Tappy stutters he is a wonderful little bear". Then you can ask her if she has any ideas why Tappy stutters and see what she comes up with.

From my research, stuttering has an emotional connection to things like:

fear of speaking the truth, talking will cause me to be hurt, I have nothing valuable to say, pleasing those in authority, self worth, I am not good enough ( which is connected to many things).

I hope the best for you and your granddaughter.
