3rd Grader taps during Math Test

     Hi All,

I just worked with a 3rd grader who was applying EFT to himself during a

math test. His test anxiety was coming back and he got paralyzed to a point

where he couldn't write. He remembered our tapping session and went through all the points as far

as he recalled them. While tapping on his face the math teacher asked him what

he was doing. He replied that he was just scratching himself and continued tapping

with his head next to the top of his  table so his teacher couldn't see him.

By doing so he relieved himself from much of the anxiety so he could continue

with the test, but he lost time by being paralyzed and by tapping. Still

he scored a 3,3 (about a C) which was better than the tests average grade

    which was 3,8  (almost a D).

He is diagnosed with Dyscalculus (Dyslexia with math) and ADHD.

We did some further tapping to back this up. But I wonder

if this was a far more powerful learning experience for him, one that I could not

possibly give him through counselling. So I am sort of glad that his anxiety came back to

offer him this great opportunity to conquer it himself - with a little

    help from a friend.

But we might have to come up with some good answers if a teacher asks them

what they are doing. Any suggestions ? By the way he was afraid

to be thrown out of class and getting a 6 (an F) if he would have answered

    the teachers question correctly.

    Be well,

    Dirk

    Hi Dirk:

In my  experience, it is sound practice to include teachers in the strategies I am using with students.  It would be useful for your student to know that a teacher in his school would be familiar with tapping.  All it would take is a brief demo at a staff meeting and a request to teachers that they allow the tapping without interference.  In fact, the teacher may even want to show some interest by asking the student about the process after class.  Teachers are terrific allies when they have the information and are invited on board.

     Hi Anne:

Thanks for the encouragement and feedback. Yes, I would love to do that. Yet german schools tend to be very conservative.

New ideas are often perceived as a thread to the authority of teachers. So I would keep a lower profile. But you

are right, I need a concept for working with schools and teachers. This will probably also need some tapping on my part,

I guess. Interesting how this whole tapping thing draws circles and things keep happening.

Would this be appropriate? The student could speak with the teacher at the beginning of he year, or when he has started EFT and explain what he has learned to assist him during class or test times. Give the teacher a short demonstration. Thanks, Elle

Hi Eloise, Two ideas come to mind. One is that using the karate chop only, while focusing on the anxiety or other problem, under the table would be fairly easy to conceal and would be very effective. Tuning-in to the problem is the critical factor. Secondly, we might teach the student to IMAGINE he is tapping the points. A student who becomes confused/frozen is most likely disoriented into his imagination already. He might imagine the feeling of fingers tapping his points, or his face with an imaginary finger tapping the points as he looks on. Practicing the tapping algorithm while looking in his mirror at home will make imagining his face easy, and may also enhance the connection to his subconscious for anything he may be working on at home.

Just to add to this, during tests I have taught my kids to use the karate chop and gamut point, either thumb on karate and two fingers on gamut or vice versa and just squeeze or massage them.  It really helps to calm you down using both points together.  I use this when I find myself becoming nervous in public situations and it is not noticeable.
