    Night Terrors

    Hello All,

A colleague asked me about her 5 year-old nephew who began awakening 5 out of 7 nights with night terrors.  He screams for 15 minutes and finally settles down.  I have little background info other than it started a year ago with the only, apparent, change being that he now sleeps in bunk beds and prefers the top bunk.  Any suggestions?  I will not be working with this child, however, I would like to pass along a variety of ideas.

    Re: Night Terrors

    Hello,

One child I knew was having nightmares about thieves.  A few nights of  tapping on "Even though I have been having these scary thief dreams, I am safe and can sleep well" worked effectively.  I find safety is often as issue in nightmares/restless sleep.

Another child was suggested "Even though I have been having this scary dream of ____, I would rather have fun dreams about (favorite toy character) instead".  This also worked well.

One thought that occured to me was that prefering the top bunk may indicate some sort of claustrophic tendencies and tapping along those lines may be needed?

    All the best!

    Warm Regards,

    Re: Night Terrors

I recently had a client who was also having night terrors, age 12.  As is typical of night terrors (unlike nightmares) the sleeper does not usually remember anything about the event.  I asked the client how he was sleeping and he reported 'just fine". however, a check in with mother proved otherwise, stating his terrors wake up the family several times per week.  So....I brought him back into my office and did about 2 rounds on this issue stating something like,:

Even though I am having really bad dreams that I dont even remember, I choose to love and accept myself

Even though I have horrible dreams at night that wake up my family I choose to believe I am loved

Even though I have terrible nightmares that I dont remember, I choose to believe I am a great kid anyway.

Next session I asked Mom if he was still having the terrors...she looked at me in disbelief and stated, "oh my gosh, he has not had a night terror since we saw you and I didnt connect the two".  Mom loves EFT!!!!

    Long live EFT!!!

    Re: Night Terrors

    Hello,

I have a nine year old son who has been experiencing migranes and vomiting upon going to sleep over the past six nights. CT scans and MRI of his brain have been performed revealing no damage or abnormalities to his brain. In tonight's episode as with the previous, he screams to the top of his lungs that he loves my wife and I dearly and does not want for us to ever leave him. My wife and I do not have any marital problems and we try to be fair in the time we share with both our son and our 4 year old daughter.

My son told us during his episode tonight that he recently had a dream in which he found himself walking down a road and finding my wife and I badly mangled; us saying to him to return home and to always look after himself. It is also fair to say that this year is his first in catecism classes and he has been obsessed with the way Jesus was crucified. Tonight he said that he cannot believe someone would be submitted to Jesus' ordeal. A few weeks ago he also asked me at what age my father passed away (60 years old) and he broke down saying that with my age, 42, I am not far from leaving him.

I am not a doctor, psycologist or psychatrist however I feel that my son has a lot of emotional disturbances. I do not want to resort to professionals who treat these issues with prescription drugs, therefore I would like to know if EFT can be of help.

Lastly I would like to point out that we live in Queretaro, Mexico, 120 miles north of Mexico City. Do you know of anyone that can help us?

    Sincerely,

    Agustin Orendain

    Dear Agustin,

I am a therapist in US, ( Missouri).  I would say that absolutely it can help your son. Not only that, you can do the most for him because you have daily access to him. Please go into this website and download the instructions on how to proceed and then start working with your child. Be persistent. I have seen enormous changes in the little children I work with who have suffered a great deal of trauma. Also, try doing it on yourself and your fears. I use it myself as I tend to be anxious about many things going on in my life at the present. And stay in touch with this forum. Post your experiences here.

                                                                        Lovingly,
