    Son has toilet-training issues.

I was intersted in the quote by Janeal Jones in the September 3rd newsletter about sucessful EFT on her son who had problems with going to the toilet. My son is also 7 years old and has the same problem with messing his pants. I would like to know how she proceeded with EFT.

    Hello Elesa,

Can I ask do you tap with your son currently?

There are many ways in which EFT can be helpful for your son. Firstly for the physical side of what is going on for your son and how that makes him feel. As important, if not more so, is understanding the emotional stuff going on for him.

Getting to as many parts of the big picture and tapping for them with your son or surrogately is the way to go. Taking each 'symptom 'or 'feeling' at a time and tapping on it until the units of distress diminish to zero.

What he says about what is happening physically.

How it makes him feel - is he bothered?

What he thinks about stuff at school, home, friends, family.

What he thinks and says about himself - positive and negative.

You are right to think that there are likely to be some emotional reasons for his problems, it is common at this life stage.

So for example if your son has things going on at school and by chatting gently he says, ' Harry makes me scared because he shouts at me for....' then that forms the set up statement. 'Even though I am am scared when........ I am a good boy/ I'm OK/ I'm a great friend, etc'

There is so much that you can learn and use effectively.

Start gently with him and take each piece of the picture at a time. Be inventive, creative as you like, tie it into his interest and always use his words.

How do you feel? What do you say? It's always worth working on our stuff as parents too.

Read other posts and replies and there is training material that may help.

Come back with any feedback or questions.

    Best Wishes

    Christine

    Re: Son has toilet-training issues.

    Hi Elesa,

I would recommend talking with your son and trying to see if you can find a source. Often children have fears which hold them back from progressing in this area. I have found more boys that are afraid of the toliet. When they go #1, they see the force that flushes it away, they often have fears about going #2 because they have to sit. I have had a number of little boy clients who after tapping on the fear of falling in or getting pulled in or flushed away, have completely resolved the problem.

There could also be an attachment issue so be sure to think that through. Did he have a difficult time starting school for the first time? Sometimes kids literally don't want to let go, and that can prevent them from using the toliet when they need to, which results in an accident when they can no longer hold it.

You may also want to follow up with tapping on any embarrassment that he may have felt from having the accidents, and finally tap on the tapping locations with positive statements, such as: I am strong and mighty, I can do it, I know I can make it to the bathroom, it is safe for me to use the toliet, It is healthy to let go, I am safe, I am an awesome boy...

Hope some of those suggestions help. Good luck!

    Sue
