    Beginning of School

We are just completing our first full week back to school, and TappyBear has already been put into action. On the first day we had three kindergarteners who were not at all sure they were ready for the school experience, and were crying and proclaiming they wanted to go home in no uncertain terms! I introduced TappyBear, showed the students his "power buttons,' did a little tapping and showed the students how they could tap on the power buttons. They calmed down and took their places in the classroom; for a little extra assurance, I left aTappyBear with each student for the day. By the 3rd day, only one of the little students still had a problem separating from her mom in the morning.

It would be great for teachers to tap with their students at the beginning of the year with such setups as, "Even though I'm a little nervous about this year,' "Even though I'm new to this school," Even though I'm already worried about the big tests," etc. Teachers can keep their own stress level down as they help their students to do the same!

And parents, this is a great time to start tapping with your child before they leave for school to get them in a good frame of mind. Tap in some positives: "I love to learn," "Learning is easy for me," "I make lots of new friends."

    Have an awesome year!

    Re: Beginning of School

I have been doing classroom guidance the past couple of weeks from K-5. I wanted to remind the students using about EFT this year. I took TappyBear with me, and it was fun to see how the students who have been here before (and already had met Tappy) responded. I had some of them explain to the new students what was so special about TappyBear. We did some tapping on different scenarios, including on working on anxiety and stress about taking the state test in the spring. And, yes, many students are already starting to worry about passing the test.

I also thought it would be useful to teach the students how to tap on learning new concepts or new skills when they think it's too hard. The first round, we just tapped on "It's too hard" (letting each of them tune silently into something they think is too hard for them). Then I led them in a round of alternating, "It's too hard!" "I let it be easy!" It's too hard!" "Not for me!" "It's too hard!" "I let it be easy!"  It is fascinating to watch their faces as their confidence begins to grow.

This week I also had the privilege of sharing EFT with other counselors within the district. It is wonderful that more and more counselors and teachers are recognizing what an empowering tool this is for children.
