    Epilepsy and developmental delays

    Hi

My grandson is nearly 7 but has a developmental age of around 2. He had severe epilepsy when he was 5 months old and so required strong meds to control it. He goes to school, with an aide, but cannot speak enough to communicate effectively. I was wondering about how to administer eft effectively to him as i figure it's at least worth a try. i would have to do the tappings for him, assuming he keeps still long enough, but I don't know about the affirmations. Or is there a modified program that i could use?

    Thanks

     Hello Wayne

For a start you could try the Tapping Rhyme that has been on the EFT Website (I think that is where I found it anyway!)

    It goes like this:

Name of the game: Happy Tapping! The rhyme:

Happy Tapping is lots of fun
You can do it on your own - or with anyone!
Tap tap tap on the top of your head,
Tap tap tap do just what I said!
Tap on your eyebrow just near your nose.
Then the side of your eye where the hard bone grows.
Now on the bone - under your eye,
Don't poke your eye or you'll make yourself cry!
Now under your nose - but over your lips
Tap tap tap - with your finger tips!
Now under your bottom lip - but over your chin,
Just on the bit where your chin goes in.
Now under your collarbone - but over your chest,
Under the bump of the bone is best!
The last on the list is under you arm,
To make sure you get it right - slap with your palm!

If you still don't feel good - don't go to bed,
Start tapping again on the top of your head!

You could do this with your grandson and make it into a game.  But of course, surrogate tapping may be the way to go if he won't tolerate you tapping on him.

Regarding affirmations or set-up phrases, what particular problems did you want to deal with?  The reliance on the strong medication? His delayed speech?

I am sure it is worth a try for him and that he will benefit.

    Hope to hear from you.

    Kind regards

     Thank you very much Vikki.

Jacob really likes action songs so hopefully he will get involved.

As to affirmations for a particular problem, he can be difficult sometimes and go into a "meltdown" where he will get really upset for no apparent (at least to us) reason. Also we're not exactly sure on the cause of his epilepsy, but we suspect he may have Angelman's Syndrome, so it would be good to see if EFT helps improve his situation.
