On the first day we had three kindergarteners who were not at all sure they were ready for the school experience, and were crying and proclaiming they wanted to go home in no uncertain terms! I introduced TappyBear, showed the students his "power buttons,' did a little tapping and showed the students how they could tap on the power buttons. They calmed down and took their places in the classroom; for a little extra assurance, I left aTappyBear with each student for the day. By the 3rd day, only one of the little students still had a problem separating from her mom in the morning.

It would be great for teachers to tap with their students at the beginning of the year with such setups as, "Even though I'm a little nervous about this year,' "Even though I'm new to this school," Even though I'm already worried about the big tests," etc. Teachers can keep their own stress level down as they help their students to do the same!

And parents, this is a great time to start tapping with your child before they leave for school to get them in a good frame of mind. Tap in some positives: "I love to learn," "Learning is easy for me," "I make lots of new friends."

Have an awesome year!

selective mutism in 9 yr old girl

Hi,

I'm a special education teacher who has completed level 1 & 2 of EFT trainin, so I'm not new to this, and frankly see it as the one thing I can offer this child. She is a new student who somehow passed the interview with the vice principal to enter the school [I work in an international school in Hong Kong with English language proficiency levels dictating entry] so obviously she spoke enough english to support her enrollment.

Her last school commented about her level of communication but nothing more. I have been working with her for about a week and a half now, everyday - doing EFT and some NLP exercises I've learned. I've used some intuition and some of the phrases I've read in articles about mutism because I'm not getting anything from her. The biggest shift, just vibrationally, was when I asked her to place all her worries in a box [what size? what does it look like?] and somehow get rid of it. She wrote down that she wanted to cook it - so we did a couple of rounds on that - it felt really good but no talking.

Today [Monday], it feels like being back to square one. Any rapport I had built up, now seems to have disipated. Has anyone else worked with a child with this condition? The parents are not really supportive of our efforts and are not encouraging her to participate on any level which makes it very hard for her to make friends, join in on group work and show her knowledge.

looking forward to any ideas

Kat

Test anxiety

Hi There

I have been using EFT for around 1 year and really want to take it into the school arena. I realise exams have already started but know that it is an invaluable tool in dealing with stress connected to exam performance.

Today I've been in to see the HeadTeacher of my son's nursery (who is also part of a group for secondary education.) She is very interested and is giving me a personal introduction to the concerned Head! I'm very excited about the possibilities... which are endless as parents will be involved and they can bring EFT into the home and their own areas of concern.

Are there any particular areas of attention that I can bring to this meeting? Perhaps a teacher's experience with how it has helped and what is essential in getting the student into a mood where they are calm enough to recall the info necessary, and confident enough that they can excel.

Thanks so much

She short cuts all instructions. Example: She is doing a math worksheet and the question will say "reduce 30/100 and write as a percent, and decimal" she will answer the first part and reduce the fraction, but she never answers the rest of the question. She does this all the time. If she's given a writing assignment, she only answers the first part and leaves the rest blank. It's like she only reads the first words and that's it. I have no idea why she does this. It's now getting to a point were it is affecting her grades. I sometimes think she does it because she's lazy or because she just wants to do the minimum to just turn it in.

Anyway, I have used EFT for a phobia I had. I was thinking that maybe EFT can help her. However, I'm not sure where to start with it. I asked my EFT practitioner and she said Hypnosis would be better for her, but we already tried hypnosis and she just falls esleep. I don't feel like it does anything for her. She's done Hypnosis as directed and still I don't think it's doing anything for her.

At this point any advice will help. Thanks in advance

In addition to performance improvements in your specific sport or activity, your students can experience many side benefits as Judy's article attests. Achievement-oriented young people may be a good audience to introduce EFT to younger generations. They are often looked up to by their peers and if they are doing something others will follow.....

minute of "performing magic" with EFT. Some of the many successes
have included: preschooler quit crying because her dad was late, a 6 year old
quit throwing a tantrum about her leotard not fitting right, a 9 year old was
able to fully participate in class when her sunburn didn't hurt anymore, one of
my instructors healed her knee, and many students have performed new tumbling
tricks when EFT removed their fear. The mothers and children keep saying to me,
"How did you do that?" And yes--- I HAVE been teaching the parents
(and children) how to do EFT for themselves." ~Judy Whitcraft

We plan to document some of Judy's students for our documentary film so look for this and other practical examples of EFT in use with young people. EFT is often discussed as a tool for dealing with serious physical and emotional issues. Don't forget to bring this technique into the everyday world of simple tasks and needs.....it works on everything.

If you have some simple examples to share, please let us know so that others can use them too.

Be well,

Eric

Using EFT with whole class (handwriting lesson)

I am a handwriting teacher (first/second grade) who is new to EFT. During handwriitng lessons I would like to use EFT to get my students ready for the lesson. Some of my students are already very resistant to handwriitng because of difficulties with writing while others are just "bored" by it. Can we tap as a whole class (26 students)? What do I say as the set up -- since the students are at such varied levels?

Autistic tendencies

I am an Intervention Specialist in Akron, Ohio. I have been working with a young man in the 6th grade that suffers with extreme anxiety disorder. We began a tapping session in the morning and then followed up with one in the afternoon. We were able to get his anxiety level down to a zero. It took at least 25 minutes. He had a calm afternoon and is so excited about coming and seeing me because he was able to, for the first time ever that he can remember be without anxiety. We will continue to work together and see how it goes. The first two sessions showed remarkable results.

I work with students (1/2 hour every 2 weeks) at risk of disengaging from the education system and wonder what the protocols would be for group surrogate tapping. Would each individual benefit as much as from an individual surrogate session? Is just focussing on each student briefly in turn prior to the setup sufficient to establish an energy connection? I would like to use the Optimizing Brain Function with EFT by Laurel Cozzuli with 25 students surrogately. All of my students have been exposed to EFT although only few choose to use it by themselves. All of my current students are willing for me to think/pray/EFT/TAT for them.

Thanks for your insight.

children will teach their parents to do this easy to use healing tool. Children
who learn to tap will have a greater quality of life; they will be able to
release their hurt, anger sadness and embarrassment themselves. Here are 7 tips
for getting EFT into your children's schools.

Tell
every parent you know about EFT. Create EFT groups where parents
learn to use EFT for themselves and their children. Share the resources on
     the EFT website.

Participate
in research projects. Doing research projects and collect data to
document how EFT helps kids overcome test and/or math anxiety. Such
documentation could make it easier for more schools to incorporate EFT.

For
school staff who use EFT - teach other staff members how to
use it for stress management. Reducing stress levels with EFT
benefits teachers and students and subsequently, teachers may share EFT
     with their students.

For
parents with kids in school - go to PTA meetings. Tell
other parents and school staff about the benefits of EFT for kids. Direct
     them to the EFT website.

Volunteer
at your child's school. If you are tutoring kids, use
EFT with a child's learning problem and share the result with the
     teachers.

For EFT
trainers - prepare brochures focused on how EFT helps children.
Provide them to school counselors, and put them on school bulletin boards.
Show the EFT Specialty Series #1 DVD where Ann Adams presents using
     EFT for children's emotional issues.

Ask school counselors you have trained in EFT to keep case histories

First a little history:

She has an older half sister who is perhaps Mentally Retarded or very close to it.

She has an older full sister who is Gifted and Talented.

She herself is 8 years old and has severe dysgraphia. Our speech therapist thought her problem was a problem where the child starts the writing in the middle of the page and uses just the right side of the paper, completely leaving off the left portion. But that is not the case. She did that on a "test" that was given to see how she writes. However, when given duplicated papers she writes in the correct place although it is sometimes unreadable. She knows what she has written, but it is often undecipherable. Speech teacher also said that she may need to read with something that helps her to read all the way to the left side of the paper, but the child is rather bright and reads a lot on her own and has good, stable comprehension.

She has developed a walking problem in the last year whereby her legs turn inward. It looks almost painful.

During the past sememster she has developed a facial tic that she is aware of and tries to hide. But it doesn't stop her from showing and talking to the whole class (standing in front of the class). She often brings objects from home that she wants to share with the class. I never discourage her. I think it is fabulous that she is so confident.

It is a pretty sad situation b/c she is so bright and "looks" learning disabled.

Her parents have been seeking help from several neurologists but to no avail. They send her away with no help or advice.

I plan to talk with her parents as friend to friend (since I cannot talk to them as teacher to parents) and tell them about EFT and Gary's site and the free manual that is offered. I hope they will take it a bit further and search for a good practitioner of EFT.

Does anyone know of a practitioner who knows what precautions to take with regards to this child? I guess I am looking for someone with a lot of experience as well as some kind of specialized training who would know best how to deal with her problems. I personally am at a loss as I am a teacher, not a counsellor or a doctor, and I am just a newbie to EFT. I KNOW it works for a fact, and I continually "weird out" my husband. (I really love doing that! LOL) I am happy to report that he too is becoming a believer gradually.

Helping my grandson with his hatred of math

I am VERY new to eft and would like to help my grandson do better at math and enjoy it. Any suggestions?

Final Exams and State Tests

Hi Everyone,

Here in Texas we are getting ready for the state mandated tests to be given this spring. Because at certain grade levels passing the tests is a requirement for advancing to the next grade or getting your high school diploma, there is a lot of stress involved for teachers, students and parents.

As a teacher or parent, if you know that a child has test anxiety, you can help with that by tapping on the fear. "Even though I'm afraid I will fail the test, I'm still a great kid." "Even though just thinking about the test makes me nervous, I'm still a great kid." If you can get your child to tell you how the anxiety or fear manifests in his or her body, you can tap on that very effectively. "Even though my brain starts to freeze when I think about the test...Even though my chest gets tight....Even though my stomach (or head) hurts..."

After you have tapped on the "bad stuff", you can start offering a more positive choice: "Even though my brain freezes up when I take a test, I choose for my brain to feel calm and relaxed." "Even though my stomach starts hurting when I have a test, I choose for my stomach to feel peaceful and happy."

Teachers and Parents, you can tap for yourselves, too. "Even though I'm really worried about Johnny passing the test, I'm a great parent and he's a great kid." "Even though I'm afraid for my child, I choose to release the fear." "Even though I'm worried about Sally passing the test, she's a great kid, and I love her no matter what." "Even though I'm worried some of the students won't pass the test, I'm a great teacher and I did my best for them."

Children are already under a lot of stress. When the adults around them are also stressed, everything intensifies. It's important for children to know that they are loved and accepted whether or not they pass the test. If they are calm and relaxed, they have a much better chance of doing their best.

Good luck!

Hugs and Blessings,

At my suggestion she appointed one of the naughtiest as monitor.

He was in charge of the door, to see that the children did not just leave when they felt like it.

I'm also an avid practitioner of Emotional Freedom Technique as well as one of the co-moderators on the Weight Loss board.

Over the past 8 weeks I've been volunteering my time on Friday mornings. As a Professional Coach, I've decided to present a program to my daughter's 6th grade class focused on teaching the children strategies to increase their self esteem and to be more aware of their bodies. I call it Self Esteem Secrets and Mental Magic. Basically what I have been doing is teaching the kids how their thoughts affect their bodies and doing so in a context that really makes sense to them.

I've been building up to teaching them more about EFT for weeks, yet don't quite know where to find the best bridge.

We've talked about the importance of having choices, and the kids shared how they often feel the victim of their cirumstances. Some of them are facing divorce in their family, others are facing sibling rivalry, loneliness, frustration, parents out of work, relatives who are alcoholics, dissention in their families, chronic illness and death of loved ones. Boy have these little ones got a lot on their plates.

The teacher and I began the school year by talking about the importance of recognizing our feelings and realizing that this is just as important as paying attention to learning any academic subject like Math or English. Both she and I are survivors of abusive homes and we stand as role models for the kids proving to them that anyone can rise above their circumstances. We've talked extensively about role models and seeking out people who can guide them to who they want to become.

I've taught them about the importance of creating a safe space inside of them, anchoring positive feelings and sharing what is on their mind with those who they trust. We've talked about bullying and how words can affect the way that we feel about ourselves. I've taught them many wonderful things that I've learned from doing a series of self esteem seminars with Jack Canfield.

I've given them several convincer examples of how magical their minds are and they are soaking it up like little sponges.

Recently the children have been investigating and researching issues in society that they want to understand more. Global warming is one of the things that they are passionate about learning.

I see this fascination and curiosity as a means of teaching them about the concept of globalization so that they can see that we are all one.

I am not sure how to bring this point home to them in terms of convincer exercises or topics of discussion. I'd like to get some ideas from anyone who can give me some insight into how to bring this together for the children so that it is deeply meaningful to them.

I have already done a Feldenkrais exercise with them that taught them that they can overcome their own perceived limitations by moving their arm further than they thought they could by just thinking about it and then I decided to take it a step further and introduce a quick reference to EFT by using the tapping on the karate chop point to further move beyond their imposed comfort zones. That was met with a lot of shocked looks of disbelief and WOWs.

In one of my NLP training classes, I recall doing an exercise where the group formed a circle and we each rubbed our hands together and after creating enough friction we put our hands into the center of the circle and played with the energy, tossing it from person to person and back again.

Can you recommend a way of introducing this concept or some other to the kids in a simplistic manner. My concern is that some of them will 'get it' and others won't be sensitive to the subtle vibrations generated by doing this exercise.

I really need some help to keep on task and to not overwhelm them with all my enthusiastic information and sharing.

My objective is to empower them to realize that they have a choice and that by honoring their emotions, they can deal with them in a way that releases stress and creates more harmony.

What recommendations can you make to help me to build a bridge so that the kids really 'get it' and see that they are part of a much bigger picture?

Thank you,

Andrea

eft in the classroom

I am fairly new in EFT and have the opportunity to present it to the elementary school in my community.
The school year is off and running, bringing with it the usual challenges. I encourage all of you who are teachers to consider using EFT at the beginning of class to set a positive tone for the day or class period. EFT can appropriately be referred to as a stress-relieving technique, and most students, elementary school students included, will freely admit to feeling a significant level of stress. Using EFT can calm everyone before teaching takes place, improving students' ability to take in and process information. (As I wrote that, I had a companion thought that teaching students EFT is one of the greatest things we can do, because it empowers them to manage their own emotions.) Doing a round of EFT only takes a moment or two and has the potential to yield amazing results.

If any of you try it, we would love to hear your sucess stories.

Hugs and Blessings,
